Tim Ream received the honor of being named captain of the U.S. Men's National Team by head coach Mauricio Pochettino during the team’s preparations for their upcoming friendly against Senegal. The announcement came during a press conference where Ream expressed deep gratitude for the role, calling it "more than a dream come true."

Ream acknowledged the significance of the captaincy but emphasized that it would not change how he contributes to the team. "It's the highest honor for me with this group and for the World Cup, and I'm not going to take that for granted," he said. Pochettino highlighted that Ream’s leadership extends beyond the pitch, noting the defender’s ability to act as captain regardless of whether he is playing or on the bench.

"If you are on the pitch, you are going to have the armband, but if you are not, whether you are on the bench or on the field, I know that you are going to act like a captain, too," Pochettino explained. He pointed out that some captains only show leadership when playing, but Ream consistently embodies the role.

Chris Richards' Fitness Status Uncertain

Chris Richards joined the USMNT camp following his recent Conference League victory but will not travel to Charlotte for the match against Senegal due to an ankle injury. Pochettino confirmed that Richards’ condition is still being assessed, and the team expects to have a clearer understanding of his readiness in the coming days.

"The next few days are going to be key to see the possibilities of being ready or not for the World Cup," Pochettino said. The official World Cup roster must be submitted to FIFA by June 1, with injury-related changes permitted up to 24 hours before the June 12 opening match against Paraguay.

Christian Pulisic's Confidence Ahead of World Cup

Christian Pulisic remains confident about his ability to score at the World Cup despite recent goal droughts. Pochettino expressed full trust in Pulisic's mindset and talent, and the player himself stated that his preparation and attitude have not changed regardless of recent challenges.

"No matter how bad things are, I like to look at things in that positive light," Pulisic said. He described the past few days as hectic but welcomed the return to a regular training routine with the team ahead of the Senegal friendly.

Ricardo Pepi Reflects on World Cup Journey

Ricardo Pepi shared his emotional reaction to being named to the World Cup squad after missing out on the 2022 tournament. He described the moment as very different this time and recounted sharing the news with his father, who became emotional.

Pepi has been performing strongly for PSV, scoring six goals in his final five games of the season. He explained that his focus has been on playing regularly and staying healthy, preparing for the World Cup opportunity that has now arrived.

Team Atmosphere After World Cup Roster Announcement

Following the announcement of the 26-man World Cup roster, Pochettino observed a noticeable change in the team’s atmosphere. Players appeared more relaxed and open, having come to terms with their selection and the opportunity ahead.

"They are in a very natural way now," Pochettino said, noting that the players are focused on improving all areas to be in the best condition for competition. This contrasts with previous camps where uncertainty about selection may have affected the players’ demeanor.
