Geagea: The Current Phase Requires Local Forces and Bodies to Assume Their Responsibilities

The head of the "Lebanese Forces" party, Samir Geagea, received in Maarab a delegation of dignitaries from the town of Al-Marj in the Western Bekaa, led by the mayor Omar Harb and his deputy Mohamed Zaarour, in the presence of the Assistant Secretary-General for Electoral Affairs Jad Damien, the regional coordinator Elie Saqr, and the secretary of the coordination office Charbel Nakhle. The discussion focused on the reality of the town and the most prominent development and service files that concern its residents in the current phase, amid the escalating economic and living challenges that directly impact the work of municipalities and their ability to respond to citizens' needs.

The delegation presented to Geagea "the reality of municipal work in Al-Marj and the obstacles facing the implementation of local projects, in addition to the priorities related to developing infrastructure, improving the level of basic services, and securing vital requirements that would support the resilience of the residents and enhance the stability of the region." The meeting also addressed the file of Syrian displacement and its repercussions on the town and the Western Bekaa region in general, where the delegation outlined the increasing challenges this reality imposes on the social, economic, and service levels, stressing "the necessity of approaching this file within a clear national vision that ensures addressing its repercussions while preserving Lebanon's interest, stability, and the ability of local communities to continue."

The delegation expressed "its support for the political and national positions adopted by the Lebanese Forces party," affirming that "its visit to Maarab stemmed from a conviction based on frankness and clarity in dealings, and on trust in the positions the party adopts on fundamental national issues." The delegation members emphasized that "what unites them with this orientation is the belief in a comprehensive national project based on establishing a capable and just state, consolidating the logic of institutions and the rule of law," while expressing "their full readiness to cooperate and coordinate in everything that serves the town, the region, and Lebanon as a whole."

For his part, Geagea stressed that "the current phase requires various local forces and bodies to assume their responsibilities," affirming that "municipalities have a fundamental role in various files, and they are capable, if they have the will, of devising solutions, even partial and temporary ones, for many files to preserve the continuity of local communities and meet the needs of citizens despite limited resources and pressing circumstances." He emphasized "the necessity for every individual and authority to play their full role based on the positions they occupy, to achieve the public interest and serve the people of the regions," affirming "his standing with the town of Al-Marj and its people, and following up on the files and issues raised during the meeting within the available capabilities, to contribute to supporting the region and enhancing its survival and development, based on the conviction that building a strong state begins with supporting local communities and enabling them to play their full role in serving citizens."
