Kai Trump Faces UK Brand Opposition Over Clothing Trademark

Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai, is currently involved in a legal dispute with a UK fashion company over trademark rights for her clothing brand named ‘Kai.’ The UK-based company, Kai Collective, has formally opposed her trademark application at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Trademark Opposition from UK Fashion Company

Kai Collective submitted a Notice of Opposition on July 22, asserting that it has been operating and selling clothing under the ‘Kai’ name since 2021. The company claims prior use in the fashion sector, which forms the basis of its challenge against Kai Trump’s trademark application.

Despite Kai Collective’s earlier market presence, Kai Trump filed her trademark application for clothing, entertainment, and education services on October 7, 2025, predating the UK company’s US trademark filing in February 2026. This earlier submission led the USPTO to initially approve Kai Trump’s application and reject the UK company’s request.

Following the USPTO’s decision, Kai Collective responded by filing a Notice of Opposition, arguing that it has been selling clothing accessories in the US since 2021. This claim introduces a legal contention over the validity of Kai Trump’s trademark registration.

Josh Gerben, founder of Gerben IP, explained that Kai Collective could present a strong case if it proves active and continuous US sales over the past five years. “If they can prove that, they have a pretty strong case here to blocking her registration for clothing products,” he told USA Today.

Gerben also praised Kai Trump for promptly filing her trademark application shortly after announcing her clothing line. He remarked, “She’s really taken a step out of the family’s playbook here,” acknowledging the strategic move in securing trademark rights.
