Kate Middleton Visits Royal Marsden to Support New Holistic Care Center

On September 11, the Princess of Wales returned to the Royal Marsden Hospital in London—the same facility where she received cancer treatment—and met with patients undergoing care. Her visit centered on advancing holistic support services and reviewing progress toward a new Center for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery.

What the Three Peaks Challenge funded

Kate secretly completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in June, summiting Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours. The effort raised funds specifically earmarked for holistic cancer care across the United Kingdom.

“This is my small way of being able to give back and say thank you to you,” she told hospital staff and patients. “I had incredible care here and support from a huge team.” She described herself as “really really grateful on a personal level.”

Emphasis on non-medical support during treatment

The Princess underscored the significance of care extending beyond clinical interventions. “But also the holistic care, the treatments and therapeutic support on the outside is so important,” she stated, citing nature, nutrition, and sustained emotional assistance during difficult treatment phases.

She confirmed those elements had directly aided her own recovery. “It made a big difference to me and it made a huge difference to lots of patients who I’ve spoken to,” she said, before thanking hospital staff for their work.

Previewing the new Center for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery

During the visit, Kate learned about the planned Center for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery, designed to support physical, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing. She viewed the site where the center will be constructed.

“I think it will be transformative not only for patients but for families too,” she said. Funds generated by her June hiking challenge will directly support the center’s development. Kate became Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in 2025, following her own cancer treatment at the hospital.
