Bayern Munich Advance Talks for Newcastle Winger Anthony Gordon

FC Bayern Munich have taken the next step in their pursuit of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, with initial discussions now underway between the two clubs. The German champions have held preliminary talks to explore the feasibility of signing the versatile attacking player, though formal negotiations have not yet begun.

The first phase of the process involves gauging Newcastle's asking price for Gordon, which is expected to be substantial. Reports indicate the Magpies would only engage if an offer starts at €86 million, though they are aware that Gordon is seeking a new challenge next summer and views a move to Bayern Munich as an attractive option.

Kane's Influence and Contract Talks

England captain Harry Kane has reportedly already met with Gordon to encourage him to join the Bavarian club, according to Sport Bild. The success of Michael Olise, who thrived after moving from the Premier League to Munich, is said to have influenced Gordon's decision to consider a similar path.

Gordon's agent, Gordon Stipic-Wipfler, has spent recent weeks in Munich negotiating specific contract terms with the club's hierarchy. Sky reports that an initial draft contract has been drawn up, including key figures, salary, and duration. Should the transfer proceed, Gordon would sign a five-year deal with the record champions.

Competition and Alternatives

Newcastle's reported valuation and interest from Barcelona mean the deal is far from complete. Sport and RAC1 add that Stipic-Wipfler has already met with Barcelona sporting director Deco. Meanwhile, Bayern are reportedly seeking cheaper alternatives, as Gordon would initially be slotted into multiple positions—Luis Díaz's outstanding form on the left wing and Harry Kane's status as a second-choice option are factors in the club's planning.

Nevertheless, Sky reported in early April that Gordon was Bayern's "absolute dream signing" because he can operate in two or three positions and would therefore plug several key gaps in the squad at the highest level. The Athletic, meanwhile, reported that RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande was Bayern's initial top target, but his fee was likely to exceed €100 million—too rich for the club's budget.
