Samsung delays Galaxy Z TriFold 2 launch to July 2027
Samsung has accelerated development of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, targeting a July 2027 release in response to Apple’s iPhone Duo—announced September 9 and scheduled for October 23 availability at $1,999.

July 2027 is now Samsung’s internal target for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 launch, according to reports from leaker Lanzuk cited by 9to5Google. The revised timeline represents a significant acceleration from the originally planned late-2027 debut and follows Apple’s September 9 announcement of the iPhone Duo—a tri-fold smartphone set to ship October 23 at $1,999.
The first-generation TriFold’s short lifecycle
Samsung’s original Galaxy Z TriFold launched globally in late 2025 with a $2,899 price tag and sold out immediately. Production lasted approximately 60 days before Samsung discontinued the device in March 2026. The company cited prohibitively high manufacturing costs as the reason for halting output.
Design priorities for Gen 2
While Lanzuk did not disclose technical specifications for the upcoming model, earlier supply-chain reports—confirmed by three independent Korean sources—indicate a target thickness of around 8.9mm. That would mark a reduction from the first-generation model’s 12.9mm profile. The Gen 1 unit weighed 309 grams, and its bulk drew consistent criticism for hindering daily portability. Durability and weight reduction are stated priorities for the redesigned device.
Pricing uncertainty and competitive pressure
The iPhone Duo undercuts the original Galaxy Z TriFold’s $2,899 price by $900—a 45% difference. Analyst estimates place the Galaxy Z TriFold 2’s potential price range between $2,700 and $3,200. Memory market volatility adds further unpredictability. Samsung must balance cost-cutting against delivering measurable improvements in software, camera performance, or build quality—especially given that the predecessor was withdrawn just six months ago.
Rollable smartphone also on accelerated track
Lanzuk noted that Samsung is simultaneously advancing its rollable smartphone project, previously demonstrated at multiple trade shows under the working name Mobile Slidable and documented in a patent filing. A 2027 release is reportedly under consideration for that device as well.
For consumers in the US and UK, the iPhone Duo enters pre-order on October 16 and begins shipping October 23. No official release date or pricing has been confirmed for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2. Even under the accelerated July 2027 schedule, Apple would retain a roughly nine-month head start in the tri-fold category.
