FIFA's New Paid Fan Message Service Sparks Debate Ahead of 2026 World Cup
FIFA will offer a paid service displaying fan names on stadium screens during the 2026 World Cup group matches, stirring mixed reactions online.

A new paid service will be available during all 72 group stage matches of the 2026 World Cup, which will take place across 16 stadiums in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. For a fee of $79, fans can have their names shown on screens during the warm-up periods before matches begin.
According to reports, messages are limited to 30 characters and the use of emojis is prohibited. The fan names will be displayed on the large stadium screens at times determined by the event organizers, with no option for fans to select the exact timing of their appearance.
FIFA has stated that the purpose of this initiative is to enhance fan engagement and provide a more personalized experience for supporters throughout the tournament.
However, the service has generated mixed reactions on social media platforms. Some users criticized it as an additional revenue-generating measure amid FIFA's already substantial earnings from broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and ticket sales.
