Marco Rubio is reportedly ready to yield to Vice President J.D. Vance if Vance decides to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2028.

The Associated Press, citing aides to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, reported that Rubio is prepared to step aside for Vice President J.D. Vance should Vance decide to run for the Republican nomination in the 2028 presidential election.
The agency noted that Rubio’s aides have indicated he has repeatedly stated his willingness to defer to the Vice President if Vance pursues the GOP presidential nomination in 2028.
Associated Press also highlighted that U.S. President Donald Trump himself is actively fueling speculation about a potential contest between Vance and Rubio. Trump asked his supporters whom they would prefer as his successor and once suggested that the two could form an "invincible" ticket.
Both the White House and the U.S. State Department have denied any discord between them, with Rubio affirming that the foreign policy team and the administration are working collaboratively.
The Republican Party will need to select a new presidential candidate ahead of the November 2028 election, as Trump is constitutionally barred from serving more than two presidential terms. Among the potential candidates named by the President are members of his administration: Vice President J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Peasent, and former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
