Russia Urges IAEA to Monitor British Uranium Supplies to Kyiv
Russia's permanent representative in Vienna stresses the necessity of IAEA oversight on British uranium deliveries to Ukraine.

Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, affirmed that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) must oversee the supply of British uranium to Kyiv.
Ulyanov told the Novosti agency that these deliveries do not violate the non-proliferation regime, provided that IAEA safeguards are applied to the materials. He added that the shipments do not pose significant risks nor require additional verification mechanisms, as long as IAEA inspectors carry out verification activities stipulated in the agency's statute with precision and responsibility.
He pointed out that to date, no incidents have occurred that would cast doubt on the adequacy of the IAEA's current safeguards regarding the nuclear program.
"No incidents have taken place. Therefore, we have no reason to be concerned about this so far," Ulyanov stated.
Earlier, the office of outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the uranium enrichment company Urenco, with government support, will supply enriched uranium to the Ukrainian company Energoatom to support nuclear power plant operations for two years. The total cost amounts to $280 million.
