Syrian Parliament Announces Members Including Former Detainees
The Syrian Higher Elections Committee revealed the names of the new People's Assembly members, including the appointed third by the president, featuring former detainees and experts.

The chairman of the Syrian Higher Elections Committee, Mohammed Taha Al-Ahmad, announced on Wednesday the list of members of the Syrian People's Assembly, including the complementary third appointed by President Ahmed Al-Shar'a according to constitutional powers.
This announcement was made during a press conference held by Al-Ahmad at the People's Assembly headquarters in Damascus, as reported by the official news agency SANA.
Al-Ahmad explained that the list of appointed members reflects loyalty to the sacrifices of the Syrian people. It includes relatives of martyrs, survivors of detention centers and chemical attacks, alongside a selection of academics, experts, skilled professionals, community leaders, and national figures recognized for their expertise, integrity, and public service.
He emphasized that the assembly members are aware of the national responsibility entrusted to them and will fulfill their duties faithfully in representing the people, exercising legislative and oversight roles, contributing to state institution building, and achieving Syrians’ aspirations for a future marked by security, stability, and justice.
Details of the Appointed Members
Al-Ahmad read out Presidential Decree No. 143 for the year 2026, which includes the names of the elected People's Assembly members previously announced by the Higher Elections Committee, as well as the names of the complementary third.
The complementary third comprises 70 individuals, among them Asmaa Farhan Al-Saba’i, Anas Mohammed Al-Abdah, Ayman Mohammed Al-Shaqiri, Ahmed Omar Zidan, Ahmed Qaddour Al-Afdel, Ahmed Nawaf Al-Jarba, Israa Zuhair Al-Mashhour, Badr Muhyiddin Jamous, Hussamuddin Mohammed Zakaria Tattari, Hussamuddin Mohammed Majid Razma, Hassan Ibrahim Dagheem, Hassan Mohammed Saleem Soufan, Hussein Abdulrahman Al-Ali, and Hussein Mohammed Assaf.
Other names include Hamza Jassim Qablan, Hamoud Ibrahim Al-Hamoud, Hanan Ibrahim Al-Balkhi, Khaldoun Jamal Al-Ahmad, Khalil Durda Al-Abdullah, Da’wah Abdul Hamid Al-Ahdab, Rami Shahir Al-Saleh, Rozina Amer Al-Lazqani, Saud Faisal Al-Najras, Soumaya Murad Murad, Samira Ayman Al-Wattar, Suhail Habib Al-Fadel, Subh Aqleh Al-Baddah, Aisha Mohammed Fahd Al-Dibs, Abdul Hamid Akeel Al-Awak, Abdulrahman Majham Mustafa, Gabriel Moushi Kouria, Lara Fathi Qadid, Laith Waheed Al-Bala’us, Moayyad Hayel Al-Qublawi, Madonna Suhail Bashara, Maher Abdulwahab Aloush, Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Zaabi, Mohammed Ibrahim Haj Othman, Mohammed Ziyad Al-Rabbat, and Mohammed Saeed Abdulqader Al-Hasso.
The list also includes Mohammed Ali Mohammed Yassin, Mohammed Nayef Bala’as, Mohammed Yasser Dalwan, Mohammed Yasser Abdul Karim Al-Humaidi Al-Hamad, Mohammed Mousa Al-Tariha, Marfat Mohammed Sobhi Toto, Mustafa Abdulrahman Abdi, Mustafa Yahya Akoush, Musab Khalil Sheikh Jad’an Al-Hafl, Mudar Wafiq Hamdan, Mundher Ahmed Saras, Mehrab Mohammed Al-Hamoud, Nasser Mohammed Khair Al-Hariri, and Najwa Bahjat Qassas.
Additionally, the names Nawar Elias Najmeh, Huda Abdul Basit Atassi, Haitham Youssef Al-Ma’sas, Wadi’ Mohammed Haj Hamoud, Yasser Suleiman Mansour, Yahya Mohammed Imad Ibrahim, Abdul Karim Ahmed Barakat, Abdul Moneim Mohammed Al-Naseef, Abdul Hakim Hawas Bashar, Abdullah Zuhair Al-Zayed, Alaa Hussein Al-Mousa, Emad Ya’qub Barq, Omar Fawaz Al-Mohammad, Issa Mohammed Ibrahim, Fatima Abdul Latif Al-Yousef, and Fatima Mohammed Haidar were included.
Next Steps for the Assembly
During the conference, Al-Ahmad set the date for the first session on the upcoming Monday. This session will include the oath-taking by all members, the election of the presidential office, and the formation of the committee responsible for drafting the internal regulations of the assembly’s work.
He also noted that the term of the People's Assembly, according to the constitutional declaration, is two and a half years (thirty months), with the possibility of extension.
Composition and Geographic Distribution of Appointed Members
Mohammed Hamza Shamout, the Secretary-General of the People's Assembly, clarified that the complementary third consists of 23 community leaders and 47 skilled professionals, including 12 with master's degrees and 17 with doctorates.
Geographically, the members are distributed as follows: five from Idlib, six from Homs, seven from Al-Hasakah, four from Daraa, three from Raqqa, five from Damascus, two from Quneitra, six from Deir ez-Zor, four from Latakia, five from Rif Dimashq, fourteen from Aleppo, two from Tartus, five from Hama, and two from As-Suwayda.
