Trump Seeks Amendments on Uranium and Hormuz in Iran Deal
President Trump has requested several changes to the Iran agreement, focusing on nuclear materials and the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to finalize the deal soon.

President Donald Trump has asked for multiple amendments to the agreement reached between his envoys and their Iranian counterparts.
The American website Axios reported on Sunday that Trump made this request during a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Friday, citing a senior U.S. administration official and another source familiar with the matter.
Axios noted that the significance lies in Trump’s continued desire to finalize the agreement soon, while emphasizing his insistence on strengthening several provisions he considers particularly important, especially those related to Iran’s nuclear materials, according to U.S. officials.
The report added that Trump's request has triggered a new round of negotiations between the parties, which could last several days.
On Friday, Trump announced he would hold a meeting in the Situation Room to discuss the agreement and hinted in his statements that he was inclined to accept it.
A White House official told reporters after the meeting that Trump "will only sign a deal that is good for America, meets his red lines, and ensures Iran can never acquire a nuclear weapon."
According to the two sources, Trump asked his team to make adjustments to the draft agreement concerning the Iranian nuclear program provisions.
The current memorandum of understanding includes Iran’s commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons but lacks specific concessions beyond this pledge.
It also sets a 60-day period for negotiating Iran’s nuclear commitments and the easing of U.S. sanctions, with the initial issues to address including how to dispose of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and limit future enrichment activities.
However, Trump wants to revise this section of the agreement.
A senior U.S. administration official said, "It concerns more details on how the United States will obtain these materials and the timeline involved," referring to the enriched uranium.
The second source added that Trump also wishes to modify some wording related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. official explained that Trump was informed the Iranians might need about three days to respond to the proposed amendments, adding, "They are literally in caves and do not use email."
The senior administration official stated, "There will be a deal. As for its imminent timing, we will see. We are prepared to wait until the president gets what he requests. It may take a week, or less, or more. We hope to have something by early next week."
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
