Zelenskyy Hopes for More Support for Ukraine After Democratic Victory
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Democratic gains in the US midterm elections will lead to increased support for Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview on Wednesday that he hopes the gains made by Democrats in the US midterm elections will provide more support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Zelenskyy stated that he hopes the changes resulting from Democratic control of both the House and Senate next year will be in Kyiv's favor.
He added: "I am also grateful to the Republicans, but the Democrats speak more clearly about supporting Ukraine and providing assistance to it."
"They are talking about renewing relations between the United States and Europe... Therefore, there is hope that a balance of power will form and we will receive more support," he said.
Zelenskyy said that receiving more American aid could have an impact on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelenskyy has made significant efforts to strengthen his relationship with US President Donald Trump, particularly after a tense meeting in the Oval Office in February 2025, when the Ukrainian president was accused of being "ungrateful" regarding US aid.
In recent weeks, Trump has taken several steps showing favoritism toward Russia, including an agreement to import Russian diesel and easing sanctions.
However, trilateral talks led by the United States with Ukraine and Russia are scheduled to resume next week after a pause lasting several months.
