Ex-Premier League Star Finds Relief from Chronic Knee Pain After Injection
Former Premier League defender Danny Mills revealed he faced severe knee pain that made everyday movements difficult before undergoing a knee injection treatment. The procedure has significantly improved his quality of life, allowing him to return to regular exercise and daily activities with less discomfort.

Danny Mills, a former Premier League defender known for his time with Charlton Athletic, Leeds United, and Manchester City, experienced debilitating knee pain after retiring from professional football in 2008. The pain was so intense that simple actions like descending stairs or standing up from a chair became challenging.
Reflecting on his physical condition, Mills described his body as being "probably 15 years ahead of its time" due to the wear and tear from his sporting career. He detailed how cold weather worsened swelling and discomfort in his knees, making daily life painful.
Knee Pain Worsens After Marathon
The situation escalated after Mills completed the London Marathon, an event he later acknowledged might have been too strenuous for his knees. Following the race, he experienced severe swelling, the worst his knees had endured. Conversations with contacts linked to football associations highlighted the severity of his condition and led him to explore treatment options.
Non-Surgical Treatment Offers New Hope
Mills was introduced to Arthrosamid, a non-surgical injection designed to provide long-lasting relief for knee osteoarthritis. The treatment is promoted as a way for athletes and active individuals to reduce pain and regain mobility with a single injection.
After receiving approval from Mark Gillett, the Premier League's head of medical, Mills underwent six Arthrosamid injections. Within three to four weeks, he noticed a significant reduction in pain and swelling. While the treatment did not restore his knees to their youthful state, it alleviated symptoms enough to enable effective rehabilitation.
Improved Mobility and Return to Activity
Post-treatment, Mills resumed running several times a week, covering distances of 5 to 8 kilometers. He also returned to playing golf and performing everyday tasks with greater ease, such as putting on socks in the morning.
"It’s not a miracle cure. You don’t suddenly feel 20 again and start sprinting around. But it takes away the swelling and pain, which then allows you to rehab properly," Mills explained. "Removing the pain allows you to move better, strengthen your body and improve."
He emphasized the importance of rehabilitation alongside the injections, noting that the treatment’s success depends on continued physical effort to strengthen the body.
