A Ligue 1 encounter between Nantes and Toulouse was permanently suspended on Sunday after home fans stormed the pitch at Stade de la Beaujoire. The decision was announced by the match delegate and the referee following a security assessment by the local prefect.

The scoreline stood at 0-0 in the 22nd minute when supporters from the Tribune Loire section breached the playing surface. Nantes had already been relegated to the second division in the previous round, while Toulouse, sitting 10th in the table, had little left to play for in the campaign.

Referee Stephanie Frappart ordered both sets of players back to the dressing rooms, but encountered difficulty calming Nantes' Bosnian coach Vahid Halilhodzic. The 74-year-old remained on the sideline hurling insults at approaching fans before security personnel eventually contained him.

Minutes later, a visibly dejected Halilhodzic spoke to a "Ligue 1 +" broadcaster in the stadium corridors, describing the incident as his "last technical supervision" and calling it "very painful."

Nantes supporters eventually returned to their secured section, which was heavily guarded by riot police. Despite the heavy presence, limited skirmishes broke out among the crowd.

An emergency crisis cell was immediately formed, bringing together the prefect, security force representatives, officials from both clubs, and match referees to determine the fixture's fate. After more than 30 minutes of deliberation, Frappart and the match delegate appeared before the media to confirm the permanent stoppage.

"The match has been permanently suspended by decision of the prefect for security reasons," the international referee stated.

Club owner and president Waldemar Kita, along with his son Franck—the delegated general manager—were absent from the match. The pair had dined with the players just hours earlier before leaving the city of Nantes.

Last season, a Ligue 1 match between Montpellier and Saint-Etienne was also permanently halted after Montpellier fans threw smoke bombs onto the pitch and into the stands during the 26th round.
