Manchester United Plans £130m Transfers for Fernandes and Hall
Manchester United aims to strengthen their squad with £80m for Mateus Fernandes and at least £50m for Lewis Hall ahead of their Champions League return.

Manchester United is preparing to invest heavily in new signings, targeting West Ham's Mateus Fernandes for £80 million and Newcastle's Lewis Hall for a minimum of £50 million to reinforce their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Michael Carrick, who stabilized the team during the latter part of the previous campaign, is now focusing on strengthening the squad for the return to Champions League football at Old Trafford. While midfield reinforcements are a priority, attention is also turning to defensive positions.
Defensive Reinforcements and Left-Back Options
Luke Shaw completed all 38 league matches this past season, an impressive achievement considering his prior injury record. However, with Patrick Dorgu being considered for more advanced roles and Tyrell Malacia having departed, the club seeks to acquire a new left-back.
Lewis Hall, a Chelsea academy graduate currently playing for Newcastle, has emerged as a leading candidate to fill this role. Despite his strong performances at St James' Park, Hall was notably excluded from England’s World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel, who selected Djed Spence as backup to Nico O'Reilly instead.
Hall's contract with Newcastle runs until 2029, and any summer transfer is expected to require a fee of at least £50 million. Given his status as one of the Premier League's top left-backs at 21 years old, this investment is considered potentially worthwhile.
Midfield Target Mateus Fernandes
Among United's midfield targets is Mateus Fernandes, who impressed during another strong season despite West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League following his transfer from Southampton last summer. Like Hall, Fernandes is 21 years old and highly regarded for his potential.
The Times reports that West Ham will demand £80 million for Fernandes, reflecting his value despite the club’s drop to the Championship. Arsenal also remains interested in the Portuguese midfielder, but it is understood that Fernandes prefers a move to Old Trafford.
