First Footage Released of Khamenei’s Residence After Early War Attack
Iranian agency releases initial footage showing damage to Khamenei’s residence following a strike at the start of the US-Israeli war.
Iranian news agency Tasnim has published what it describes as the first footage of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s residence after it was attacked at the beginning of the US-Israeli war in late February.
The video reveals extensive destruction and damage to Khamenei’s residence, although Tasnim did not specify when the footage was recorded.
Tasnim stated that the footage is being shown for the first time following what it called treacherous American attacks, with the timing of the release coinciding with ongoing funeral ceremonies for Khamenei.
Last Friday, official funeral rites for Khamenei began in Tehran as part of a week of mourning and funerals spanning Iranian and Iraqi cities, ahead of his anticipated burial on Thursday in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.
Khamenei ruled Iran for approximately 36 years and was killed in an airstrike targeting him on the first day of the conflict initiated by the US and Israel against Tehran on February 28.
Born on September 8, 1939, in Mashhad, Khamenei’s family origins trace back to the city of Tafresh in central Iran, before migrating to the Iranian Azerbaijan region and then to Najaf.
He was the second of eight siblings, three of whom, including himself, were scholars specializing in Islamic jurisprudence according to the Shiite sect. He married in 1964 and had six children: Mostafa, Mojtaba, Masoud, Meysam, Boshra, and Hoda.
On June 18, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding and have been engaged in difficult negotiations to reach a final agreement, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar.
